Personal Profile
Marc
Mayerson writes Insurance Scrawl. I am a partner at Spriggs & Hollingsworth,
a litigation firm, in Washington, D.C. (www.spriggs.com).
In our practice, we represent corporate policyholders in insurance-recovery
matters throughout the United States and advise them on their insurance
programs. I have been involved in insurance disputes involving a broad
range of insurance policies (CGL, property, D&O, ERISA, fidelity, business
interruption/extra expense, and others) and many types of losses, including
some rather exotic ones (such as genetically modified foods and complex
financial frauds). I work with clients across the country and abroad,
and we often assist other lawyers who find the need to engage specialist
insurance expertise.
In addition to my work representing policyholders, I teach the insurance law class at George Washington University's law school. I also have had and enjoy the opportunity to speak before professional audiences nationwide on insurance issues. I write longer pieces on insurance law, most of which are available by clicking on the publications link at my professional bio. Through the American Bar Association, I have been able to work on issues concerning federal regulation of the insurance industry (and am the sole policyholder-side lawyer involved in that project). I am included in Euromoney's Guide to World's Leading Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyers (6th edition) and in Chambers USA 2006 America's Leading Business Lawyers.
Since entering private practice in 1987, following a clerkship with Judge Stephen Reinhardt on the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, I have devoted my practice to insurance matters. I was born in Dayton, Ohio, attended the University of Michigan for college, and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where I served as a member of the HARVARD LAW REVIEW.

Because corporate and commercial insurance matters often benefit from specialized expertise (and because I may not have been as clear as I would have liked or hoped in a particular entry), feedback and followup is invited: you can contact me directly by email or by phone, 202.898.5800, or leave a comment or question on individual blog entries.

My law firm, Spriggs & Hollingsworth, handles complex commercial litigation including defending companies in suits nationwide, especially involving product liability and toxic torts.
